During a news conference, Asian-Pacific members of Congress announced the formation of the congressional Asian-Pacific American Caucus. The caucus was officially formed as a platform from which to advocate for the needs of Asian-Pacific Americans. The caucus executive committee appeared at the conference. Officers and founding members were Representative Norman Mineta of California, chairman; Delegate Robert Underwood of Guam, vice-chair, and Senator Daniel Akaka of Hawaii, secretary. close
