The Senate Foreign Relations Committee held a hearing on the confirmation of the nomination of James Baker as Secretary of State. Senators Bob Dole (R-KS), Phil Graham (R-TX) and Lloyd Bentsen (D-TX) all offered statements as witnesses attesting to the character of Mr. Baker. Members of the committee questioned Mr. Baker on a number of issues including his standing arms control treaties, U.S.-Soviet relations, and other issues. The hearing stood in recess until the following day at 10am. close
