C-SPAN’s Washington Journal used interviews, video clips and vignettes to illustrate the political issues and events of the previous week, focusing on issues in Iowa and the Midwest. Reporters Michael Gartner, of Ames Iowa The Daily Tribune, Gary Barrett, of WHO-AM radio Des Moines, and Jack Heath of WMUR-TV Manchester, NH discussed the headlines of the region and nation. Mr. Heath joined the conversation by phone. Marc Peterson, chairman of the Iowa Democratic Party and Brian Kennedy, chairman of the Iowa Republican Party, discussed politics and the upcoming Iowa primary for the 1996 presidential primary. Other topics included the nomination of Dr. Henry Foster to fill the post of surgeon general. The show included video clips of the C-SPAN School Bus at the capitol steps of Des Moines. C-SPAN’s Steve Scully hosted the show which took place live in Des Moines, Iowa and included viewer comments and questions. close
