C-SPAN’s Washington Journal examined current news events and political issues through reviews newspapers, interviews, and viewer comments. In the first segment, George Rodrigue, of the Dallas Morning News, discussed current issues, including Medicare and Medicaid reform. In the newspaper roundtable, reporters Lars-Erik Nelson, of the New York Daily News, and Byron York, of the American Spectator, discussed current events, including the New Hampshire presidential primary and nursing home regulations. In a taped interview, Professor Douglas Amy talked about his book, Recent Choices/New Voices, which argues for proportional representation elections in the U.S. In the next segment, Representative Sam Johnson (R-TX) talked about the House Commerce Committee’s markup of the Medicare reform bill. In the last segment, Susan Harjo talked about Native Americans perspectives on Columbus Day. close
