Current news events and political issues were examined through reviews of the morning newspapers; interviews with journalists, newsmakers and legislators; and viewer telephone calls, faxes and electronic mail. In the first segment, John Merline of Investor’s Business Daily, talked about current issues, including the budget debate. In the newspaper roundtable, Don Rush of Pacifica National News Service and Christopher Caldwell of the Weekly Standard, discussed current events, including House Speaker Newt Gingrich’s (R-GA) ethics problems and U.S. troops in Bosnia. In the next segment, Tom Blanton, Editor, talked about his publication, "White House E-Mail", which publishes internal communications among White House officials since the Reagan administration. In the next segment, Representatives Lamar Smith (R-TX) and Richard Gephardt (D-MO) talked about the debate over how to balance the budget. close
