Dr. Donald Hopkins of The Carter Center briefed reporters on the world struggle against Guinea worm disease. This disease afflicts people in Asia in Africa through contaminated water. Through The Carter Center and other efforts this disease has been virtually eliminated. A video presentation about the disease was also shown. The other participants joined in about 30 minutes into the briefing. Former President Carter talked about his personal experiences with those afflicted by this disease. close
