During the state dinner for President Chirac, President Clinton and he paid tribute to each other’s nations and each other. President Clinton again paid tribute to French assistance to the United States during its struggle for independence and to their continuing assistance in areas such as Bosnia. President Chirac thanked the president for his hospitality and U.S. assistance during two world wars and expressed his desire to continue both nations' strong commitment to liberty. The presidents' remarks were translated by an interpreter. close
