The Senate passed (97-3) an illegal immigration reform bill that would increase the number the of border patrol agents and also build a 14-mile triple fence along the U.S.-Mexico border near San Diego. The measure also increases penalties for those who use fraudulent documents and denies welfare and government entitlements to illegal immigrants. The Senate debated this bill for several weeks and was initially pulled from the floor by the Republican leadership after disagreements over some amendments. close
