Members of the US House of Representatives debated an amendment sponsored by Representative Republican Frank Riggs of California to H.R. 1227 which would increase the minimum wage to $4.75 per hour in July of 1996 and $5.15 per hour in July of 1997. The House passed the amendment by a 266 to 162 vote. close
