In the inaugural lecture of a series on “Black Genius,” Film Director Spike Lee, an alumnus, spoke at New York University. He talked about his film work as a student and his subsequent career. He stressed that discrimination did not deter him, but rather reminded him that he had to outperform his competitors and the balance between producing films which truly represent African-American lives and films for a wide audience. Then, several others commented on his remarks and his works and then he took questions from the audience. close
