Alexis de Tocqueville and Gustave de Beaumont visited Fort Gratiot on their way westward through the Great Lakes region in August 1831. Port Huron is on the former site of Fort Gratiot. Steve Williams talked about the history of Fort Gratiot and what Tocqueville observed while there.
