Majority and minority counsels for the Senate Governmental Affaris Committee announced a change in the investigation into campaign fund-raising in the 1996 campaign. The committee will now focus on changes in the laws governing campaign finance rather than abuses of the current laws. They stressed that they accelerated the examination of reform because the it seems likely that the issue will soon be coming to the Senate floor for debate and that this was always part of the committee’s agenda. close
