President Bill Clinton spoke to Mission High School students about the importance of education in the U.S. He said the tradition in Latino communities of dropping out of high school to earn money for family upkeep no longer makes sense. The President also announced a Fiscal Year 1999 budget proposal which would include a $70 million funding increase for college work-study programs, among other education initiatives, such as Hope scholarships, education IRAs and increased Pell Grants. close
