Edward W. Brooke III

Edward William Brooke III was an American lawyer and politician. A member of the Republican Party, he represented Massachusetts in the United States Senate from 1967 until 1979. Following his election in 1966, he became the first African American elected to the United States Senate by popular vote. Wikipedia*
