'The Mismeasure of Desire: The Science, Theory, and Ethics of Sexual Orientation' is a 1999 book about sexual orientation research by the philosopher Edward Stein, in which Stein critically evaluates the research, discusses the debate between "social constructionists" and "essentialists", and criticizes the way other authors have discussed social constructionism. Part of the "Ideologies of Desire" series edited by the queer theorist David M. Halperin, 'The Mismeasure of Desire' received mainly positive reviews and was praised by philosophers and other commentators, but also received some negative and critical responses. Wikipedia*
