ROBERT BARNWELL SMITH

Robert Rhett was an American politician who served as a deputy from South Carolina to the Provisional C.S. Congress, 1861 to 1862, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from South Carolina, 1837 to 1849, and Senator from South Carolina, 1850 to 1852. He was an extreme pro-slavery spokesman and advocate of secession - a "Fire-Eater" in the slang of the time. Wikipedia*
