Supreme Court dismissed the case, United States v. Microsoft, after Congress approved & the president signed the CLOUD Act (Clarifying Lawful Overseas Use of Data). Oral argument was heard back in February. The case dealt with warrant compliance and email contents stored abroad. The federal government got a warrant to require email service provider Microsoft to turn over information to investigators from an email account they believed was being used for drug trafficking. Microsoft said no. The government obtained the warrant via the Stored Communications Act which allows them to do so if they have probable cause to believe a crime was being committed. Microsoft argued that the Stored Communications Act does not apply in this case because the emails of interest are stored outside of the United States.
