Mr. Hernon talked about his book, Profiles in Character: Hubris and Heroism in the U.S. Senate, 1789-1990. He presents a history of the Senate with biographical sketches of senators from 1789 to 1990. Professor Hernon pairs up well-known senators with lesser-known senators of the same time period that he feels are more deserving of renown. He examines the ideological battles over the issues of the day to point out examples of character and character flaw. He also points out the historical significance and power of the Senate. close
