The House Appropriations Subcommittee chaired by Representative Jim Kolbe, R-Arizona heard testimony from various government officials on the role of the Treasury Department in law enforcement and the necessary budget to conduct their operations. Treasury law enforcement includes the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, the Secret Service and Customs Service. Sam Banks, U.S. Customs Service Acting Commissioner, gave a demonstration of new customs procedures for identifying foreigners coming into the country. Also on hand to testify were Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin, and John Magaw, Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms Bureau Director. close
