Former secretary of education (1979-81) and former Federal Judge Hufstedler testified in opposition to the nomination. She maintained that the Supreme Court is in need of a moderator, like Justice Lewis Powell. She said that Judge Bork, although he had been compared to Powell, is not a moderator.
