The Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Anti-Trust and Monopolies, chaired by Sen. Howard Metzenbaum, held a hearing on fraud and abuse by charitable and non-profit organizations. The American Lung Association, the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Association, The Salvation Army, and AARP were represented at the witness table. Witnesses spoke about the mission and policies of their respective organizations and also talked about the emergence of “copycat” charities that are deceiving the public. close
