The International Monetary Fund (IMF) revised its latest estimate of world economic growth forecast for 1998 from 3.5 to 3.1 percent. IMF Research Department Director Michael Mussa and Deputy Director Fleming Larsen stressed that the Asian financial problems will slow world economic growth more than previously expected and that uncertainty remains as to how Japan and other economies can avoid the negative impacts of the Asian economic problems. close
