President Clinton, Vice President Gore, Senator Lott, and Speaker Gingrich, along with Chief Abrecht, spoke during a memorial service for two Capitol Hill police officers slain in the Capitol building last Friday. Prior to speaking, the leaders laid wreaths at the caskets of the officers. President Clinton said that the officers “consecrated this House” and that the story of the officers' heroism was “already a legend.” close
