President Clinton addressed the nation from the White House Map Room. Earlier during the afternoon, he had given grand jury testimony by video link from that room. In his address acknowledged that he had a relationship with Monica Lewinsky, a former White House intern, that was “not appropriate.” He said that he had not asked others to lie under oath. This was the first time that a sitting president testified before a grand jury in a criminal investigation. close
