This discussion concerned Violence in American Schools, hosted by the WILLIAM T. GRANT FOUNDATION.

Ms. Hamburg and Professor Elliott discussed a recent study of youth violence, especially in the schools. The study sought to explain the increase in the brutality of youth violence and means to curb it. Professor Elliot said that school violence had become more intense over the past few years because both drugs and guns had become increasingly available to children. They also discussed community-based programs to reduce youth violence. After their remarks they answered questions from the audience.
