Senators Moynihan and D’Amato gave introductions in support of John Dunne to be Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights. They talked about the nominee’s long and distinguished record of public service. Sen. Metzenbaum expressed concerned that Mr Dunne, a judicial nominee for a civil rights position, had been a member of several clubs that discriminated against women. The nominee spoke about the importance of applying the “true spirit” of civil rights law. close
