U.S. Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy spoke about judicial independence and accountability. He described some of the historical background of the struggle between the judicial branch and the monarchy which preceded the American constitutional separation of powers. He said that there is no such thing as an independent judiciary without an independent bar. He also talked about the importance of a jury because it vindicates the whole idea of democracy. close
