Mr. Wyden discussed the history of the Berlin Wall and its ramifications in the series of four interviews. Mr. Wyden is a Jew who left Berlin with his family before the beginning of World War II. He said that he took his children, including Rep. Ron Wyden (D-OR) who appears in the last interview, to see the wall and they were heavily affected by it. His book was published before the wall came down, but he discussed the German environment now that the wall is down. He said there is an “absence of fear” where things become possible. He foresaw “prosperity, jobs, cars, refrigerators, telephones, decent schools” for the East Germans. close
