At the 1999 New Jersey State of the State, Governor Christine Todd Whitman (R) discussed the preservation of 1 million acres of farmland and open spaces to help maintain these areas for future generations. She announced the creation of an open registry that will indicate all of the land that is being preserved. She announced plans to provide financial assistance for those caregivers of aging parents and relatives and to provide more respite care. close
