Senator Lott talked about the procedure of the impeachment trial. After the question period, he said that the Senate will consider a motion to dismiss if one is offered, and they will also consider calling witnesses. He stated that he doubted that the senators will want to dismiss the case without hearing all the evidence. Senator Leahy said that if the Republicans do not have the votes for convicting the president, then the Senate should vote on the articles of impeachment and end the trial. He stated that there is no need for the question time either. Senator Dorgan stated that there is no need for calling witnesses. He also mentioned that the Senate should vote on the articles of impeachment instead of a vote to dismiss. close
