Mr. Davatzes talked about the growth of the cable industry in 1998 and the potential for future growth, noting that in August basic cable, for the first time, drew a majority of viewers in the U.S. He said that the industry still faced several challenges. Among the challenges were technological integration, dilution of talent, and government regulation. Of particular concern was on-going proceedings which would impose digital must-carry regulations on cable companies which Mr. Davatzes vigorously opposed. After his remarks he answered questions from the audience. close
