Senators Robert Bennett (R-UT), Chris Dodd (D-CT), and Gordon Smith (R-OR) issued a report on the nation’s preparedness for potential problems resulting from the calendar change to January 1, 2000. The report warned that some local governments and industries may not be prepared to avoid computer malfunctions. It singled out the health care industry as the greatest potential problem saying that 64 percent of hospitals were not testing fixes to their systems and that 82 percent of doctors were unaware of the problem. After their remarks, they answered questions from the audience. close
