Panelists talked about death penalty appeals noting that indigent petitioners often lacked adequate representation. They discussed how the law often encouraged this situation. They also discussed possible remedies such as state-wide public defenders offices which could provide a capital case unit to assist with appeals. Two panels were followed by an address from Professional Boxer Rubin Carter in which he discussed his nineteen-year ordeal to reverse his conviction. close
