NATO Secretary-General Javier Solana briefed reporters on the military strikes in Yugoslavia. He stated the NATO goals of stopping the killing in Kosovo, to put an end to the refugee problem, and create the conditions necessary for a political solution. He stated that President Slobodan Milosevic rejected a political solution which left NATO no other option than military action. U.S. General Wesley Clark explained what the air campaign has done so far. He praised the NATO troops for the way in which they are executing their superiors' orders. He said that the NATO forces are being very careful to bomb only military targets, and that the Serbians are attempting to make it appear that NATO forces are intentionally bombing civilian targets. He showed slides of the military operation. They took questions from reporters. close
