Prior to a book group discussion of Mr. McBride’s book, an interview was shown in which

Mr. McBride talked about his book [The Color of Water: A Black Man’s

Tribute to His White Mother], published by Riverhead Books. The book

is the story of the author’s mother’s emigration from Poland to the

United States, and her battle against racism and poverty after her

second marriage. She raised 12 children in all, in Harlem in New York City, all of whom went to college. The book group analyzed Mr. McBride’s book, discussing his relationship with his mother and his attempts to learn about her background.

In a continuation of the interview Mr. McBride talked about his reactions to the book discussion group. close
