Premier Zhu Rongji spoke about his trip to the U.S. and about U.S.-Chinese relations. He said that China was ready to open its markets to increase competition and was ready to join the World Trade Organization. He warned, however, that the markets should not open too fast to avoid instability such as that in Southeast Asia. Among the other topics addressed were technology transfer and intellectual property rights. close
