T.J. Glauthier and Janet Abrams reported on the utilities industry’s ability to cope with potential computer problems posed by the date change on January 1, 2000. They said that 75 percent of the industry had performed tests on their systems and that no problems were expected. They were concerned, however, that the industry was behind schedule in their tests with some companies not expected to be compliant until the fourth quarter of 1999. After their remarks they answered questions from reporters. close
