In an excerpt from the House floor, members debated H.Res.394, which concerns H.R.2273, a measure that would guarantee disabled Americans equal access to public facilities, mass transit and jobs. It would require that companies with more than 15 employees make reasonable accommodations that do not impose an undue burden if a disabled person is otherwise able to perform the essential functions of the job. The Senate passed its version of the bill last September. President H. W. Bush has said he supports the legislation. close
