General Smith discussed his book about Marine Lieutenant Colonel Jimmie Dyess, the only person to win the two top American awards for heroism. He described how Dyess, while still an undergraduate at Clemson, saved two women and was awarded the Carnegie Medal. He then described how Dyess was killed while leading an attack on Japanese positions in World War II, for which he was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor. close
