Representative Jack Brooks, chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, was interviewed about his career experiences and his background. He also is a member of the House Select Narcotics Abuse and Control Committee. He was the author of the amendment that created a national drug czar, against President Reagan’s wishes.

Representative Brooks is considered by some to be Congress' most partisan Democrat. He has very strong loyalties and is not afraid to fight for his positions or his friends. For example, he supported House majority leader Jim Wright even during the ethics investigation and reprimanded his fellow Democrats who would not support Wright.

Representative Brooks is also well known for his strong independence and his directness. close
