George H. W. Bush and Mikhail Gorbachev, President of the Soviet Union, met in the East Room at the White House for the signing Ceremony. There was a large audience present during the signing of the agreements to illuminate most of the chemical weapons that the countries have stock piled over the years. They signed the agreements on destruction and non production of chemical weapons, the protocol to the treaty to the limitation on underground nuclear weapon tests, the protocol to the treaty of underground nuclear explosions for peaceful purposes, agreement on scientific and technical coorperation in the field of peaceful usage of atomic energy, etc.... close
