The House of Commons suspends its session and moves in ceremonial procession to the Senate chamber. The Governor General reads the Throne Speech to the assembled members of both Houses of government. House members then return to their chamber and commence the “throne speech debate.” This session of Parliament will consider only legislation on trade with the United States. Leaders hope to finish the session by Christmas.
