Mr. Ogden, former Time Magazine bureau chief in London, interviewed Mrs. Thatcher several times. His book, Maggie: An Intimate Portrait of a Woman in Power, follows the life of the British prime minister from her childhood to her present role. Ogden described Mrs. Thatcher as being exactly what Britain needed, “the right person at the right moment with the right prescription.” In regard to international relations, Odgen said, “If (President) Reagan was the chief executive officer of the West during most of the decade...Thatcher was his chief operating officer, keeping the president on track and the Alliance from backsliding.” close
