The American Sociological Association sponsored a forum which discussed turning points in the Middle East which led to the current crisis. An absence of democracy and socioeconomic disparity are presented as base reasons for the conflict while nationalism and ultra orthodoxy are also named. The deconstruction of Palestine/creation of Israel, the Six Day War and Invasion of Lebanon and the Iranian Fundamentalist Revolution and subsequent war with Iraq are seen as catalysts towards the current crisis. close
