The state attorneys general met earlier in the day with William Bennett, Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy, then spoke to reporters. Mr. Bennett had asked the members of the Criminal Law Committee of the State Attorneys General to create a memorandum about state initiatives in controlling drugs. He intended to use the state initiatives as part of the third phase of a national strategy to fight drug trafficking. The memorandum from the attorneys general examined education, community action, workplace treatment and interdiction. The attorneys general responded to reporters' questions about the drug control situation in their states. close
