Brian Urquhart, author of A World in Need of Leadership: Tomorrow’s United Nations, was one of the first U.N. civil servants and worked in the U.N. Secretariat until his retirement in 1986. Mr. Urquhart worked closely with all five Secretaries General and served as under secretary general for special political affairs. He shared his perspectives on the international organization and how it might be improved. Among the issues he discussed is the role of women in the U.N. and the selection process for the U.N.
