Members of the Senate Select Committee on Ethics met to consider allegations of impropriety involving five U.S. senators. The charges refer to the senators' involvement with Charles Keating, former chairman of Lincoln Savings and Loan institution in California. The allegations claim that the senators may have unduly influenced bank regulators on behalf of Mr. Keating. During the first day of the hearings members of the committee made their opening statements and the committee’s special counsel made his opening statement citing the allegations against the senators. close
