Witnesses testified before the House Judiciary Committee about the need for federal legislation which provides for greater punishments for crimes motivated by hate. Several witnesses described the abuses they suffered due to their minority status. Others talked about the impact such a law would have on the judicial process. The proposed legislation would include protections for gender, disability and sexual orientation. close
