Secretary Cuomo and others talked to reporters about the $1.6 billion budget cut for the Department of Housing and Urban Development for fiscal year 2000. They stressed that this cut would have a negative impact on many lower income families in America, and reduce many services provided by the department. They also stated that the tax cut proposed by the Republicans would hurt the progress that they have made in helping families and reviving urban areas.
