Representatives including Steve Horn, R-California, briefed reporters on the readiness of federal agencies for the year 2000 computer problem. They charted progress with a report card of how agencies have done since 1986, when the problem was first identified. Areas that they found particularly lacking were Medicaid, immigration, postal service, patents, and government employee services. They urged essential government programs to take the steps necessary to keep the government running in the face of the problem. They also answered media questions. close
